TBird has been struggling with a case of the hooks off and on over the last two seasons. However, the bird shot a solid 40 during his first round at Enger this summer. When the game is on, there is a reason they call him STB, short for Steady Tom Berrisford because he is exactly that… Steady as can be. One of the most dominant baseball players in Duluth Lakeview history, Tom has been known to have a bit of a temper. 2 outstanding instances come to my mind. Summer of 1999 or 2000 or 2001, one of the three… Hole number 4 at LPGC front nine. Not sure what club, but whatever it was, it duck hooked into the left woods I believe. The Club went about 25 feet into a nearby pine tree. Being the good friend that I am, I offered to risk my life to climb the tree and retrieve the golf club without hesitation. The second incidnet was in 2007 during the CSS Baseball Alumni Golf Tournament on the 3rd hole of the tournament. After a 3 putt triple bogey I believe, TB launched his putter into the woods and headed to the next tee box. Now the putter had a bright orange handle, so the thought at the time was that it would be an easy find. So me, KK and DJ headed into the woods on an all out search for the putter. With Bird still on the next tee box, he yells at the three of us to get going and leave the bleepidy bleep putter. Concerned for our friend well being, we continued to search on for the next 5 minutes until we were officially holding up play and were nearly penalized for slow play, we had to leave the putter behind. Tom decided to putt lights out on the next 3 holes. As we came down 16, we decided to take another swing through the woods in the area of the lost putter. DJ spotted the orange handle of the putter about 8 feet up in a tree after about a 3 minute search and the bird was able to finish his round with all 14 clubs. Unfortunatly Tommy still mssed the cut, but it is a story I will remember for the rest of my life.
