Team 2 was named after this delightful heater huffer. If not a scratch golfer, Mr. Martin is pretty darn close. Rarely does this guy make Bogeys. If you watch Brian play the game, it looks amazingly simple as you will see there are only 2 simple things you need to do on the golf course:
- GIR
- 2-putt
Nothing else really matters to get you into the land of scratch. B-Mart has mastered the art of putting his teeshot in a spot where the green is reachable and understands his iron game well enough to know what needs to happen for his ball to find the green. The double H’s will ride this OMGGod the entire season and you can believe the pressure will be measure by the number of huffed heaters.

Mike Lewis is on the opposite end of the experience scale than E-MO, as Mike will be a first timer on the “I’m Retired from Saints Baseball” summer bender. As many of you know, exiting college life and walking into old man territory can be a mixed bag of emotions. I learned tonight that Mr. Lewis will be on a quick downhill slide into old man ecstasy as he is immediately abandoning his “other family”, the Duluth Xpress for the evil Oulu Blue Jays. Spending time with the BJ’s will drag this young buck into their oldness which will have a direct affect on his golf game, whether that is a positive or a negative has yet to be seen. Mike has yet to establish himself as a dominate performer on the golf course when paired up with legends such as TB, KK, CK, JB, etc… this summer will clearly identify if Mike will be a force to be reckoned with or just another baseball player trying to swing a golf club, we all know Mike can swing a baseball bat as his talent was on display at Wade Statdium tonight hitting bombs off a pretty darn good pitcher. I have only witnessed Lewy’s golf game on a few special occasions, but I do believe that Brian’s brother could become a Baseball Alumni Golf Tournament contender if he dedicates some time to the golf course, the driving range and the putting green instead of the Batting Cages for a summer. From what I can recall, Mike is fairly long of the tee with a slight fade, not a slice, but a workable fade. Add a consistent set of irons and not many mistakes on the green and Mike may shoot some low scores. Mike will bring a solid attidude, a good work ethic and a skoal to the Pine Martin’s team on a weekly basis, we will see how quickly this young guy turns old.

Eddy is probably the number 1 reason this golf group is named the OLD MAN golf group. In order for Edward to keep his back from blowing out, he has toned down his golf swing since his younger years. This veteran will show the free swingers that 220 and straight is better than 280 in the woods and you can take that shizz to the bank. You won’t see Eddy dropping in eagles very often and birdies will probably few and far in-between, but the same goes on the other side of par, a couple bogies, but very few “Other Cards” will find their way in to Eddy’s bag. There is nothing inconsistent about Mo’s game, some question his dedication to the golf group, but I guess that we will learn quickly whether or not the Captain can take on the responsibility of showing his teammates the meaning of loyalty. I predict that Eddy will have his team in order and this team will show teamwork like that of the old east coast race track days.

Oh, you mean Tres Quatro? I got the scoop on this joker. Gabe usually will sport slacks and a gold or yellow polo with a nike hat and nike shoes, the kicks of choice this year are black with a black swoosh outlined in gold (yes, they are T and A and they match my bag, and KK’s bag for that matter). Just so you know, if I get Steve to let me keep my clubs in a locker downstairs, I’ll be rolling to the course on my Ninja and if you wondered, it is black and gold and matches my shoes and golf bag (kenny’s too). Expect to see 270-280 with the driver off the tee with Fransen. 80% of the time it will be a big left to right slice, 15% of the time it will be straight down the middle and 15% of the time it will be a duck hook into the left woods. For all you mathematic guru’s, yes, that is 110%, which IS possible, just ask Dusty, it is doing a bit more than 100%. 3 wood is pretty consistent, but sometimes you will see that dang bird, I mean duck hook. Iron play is pretty consistent and at times Gaber will put some chips and pitches to the tap in range or flat out drain em. Putting game is suspect, expect some decent consistency, but tends to have 2 uncalled for 3-putts per round. F bombs are usually present when golfing with this tool shed. Good guy to have on your team if you are known for throwing golf clubs into trees.

Getting Tagged as the number 1 Ranked player in the Old Man Golf Group Pre-Season standings does not come without a proven track record and Mr. Kolquist has displayed his greatness on several occasions. Even though he is in the process of swing changes to have a consistent right to left ball flight instead of his natural left to right ball flight, Nutz continues show that he is head and shoulders above the average EPGC goers. With his hard work and consistent practice sessions to improve his golf game, Kenny gets better at golf the farther he gets away from the baseball diamond. Long off the tee with his driver with the ability to hit long irons when the risk of a wayward teeshot could get him into trouble gets Kenny to a freindly looking approach shot on most holes. Consistently placing a GIR card in his back pocket and staying away from the 3-putt card puts Key-Key in postion to shoot under par and distance himself from the rest of the pack. It will be interesting to see if the rest of the group can drive Kolquist to get better or does he need to look to the Duluth Area Traveling League to put a challenge to his game.

Voting for team names is due on April 16th, which is only 2 days away. I am guessing that people would like to put their vote in, but at the same time, I don’t think the deadline was a surprise and I think there was ample time for the jokers in the league to log in and type in a couple lines. I would like to see everybody vote, but then again you do have the eff em leave em theory that I learned in 1999. We’ll see how I feel on Wednesday.
